I blame the JD or rather what actually is IGA Nephropathy?

When Tara first told me she had Berger's disease (the common name for IgA Nephropathy) I thought it was something to do with being intollerant to a Big Mac. When she explained that it meant she had kidney failure I thought it must be on account of all the Jack Daniels. These are two very common misconceptions about people with kidney failure - they are not allergic to Big Macs as it turns out and kidney failure has very little to do with alcohol consumption. As we have been on this journey together we have grown accustomed to people making that leap from kidney to liver and blaming it all on a hedonistic lifestyle. Tara has only got eyes for tea and orange squash but even if she did occasionally make like Mötley Crüe it would have very little impact on the function of her kidneys.
Your kidneys filter your blood and remove all of the nasties, so obviously when they are not functioning properly for any reason it means that those nasties remain in your blood and can cause all sorts of issues. Including kidney rage but I'll do a whole post on that later.
Tara has a fantastic consultant, Dr Jonathan Barratt and he has published all sorts of info on IgA Nephropathy some of which I have copied here.
